Description
Trebonianus Gallus. AD 251-253. AR Antoninianus (20.5mm, 4.40g). Antioch mint.
Obv: IMP C C VIB TREB GALLVS P F AVG; Radiate, draped and cuirassed bust right. Two pellets behind bust.
Rev: MARTEM PROPVGNATOREM; Mars, helmeted, advancing right, holding spear in right hand and shield in left hand. Two pellets in the exergue.
RIC IV 84 var. (pellets). Rare variant of a scarce type. No mint marks are recorded for this type according to the footnote in RIC, but one specimen with two pellets is shown in BMC. The two pellet mintmark is known on other types of Antoninianus from Antioch but not on this type.
